Devanagari

Input method

The input method in IndicNotes is called Devanagari-Anjal. It allows inputting of text in two modes: Devanagari and English. The keyboard for both modes remain the same. The keys on the keyboard will generate either Devanagari letters or English letters depending on the mode. You can change the mode by touching the button on the left of the toolbar above the keyboard. The label on the button shows the current mode.

While in Devanagari mode, the keys will generate Devanagari letters based on the keymap provided in the table below. The keys approximate the sound of the Devanagari letters.

Vowel signs

When a vowel key is typed after a consonant, the key generates a vowel sign instead of a vowel. To explicitly type a vowel after a consonant, change mode to English and back to Devanagari. You can do this by touching the toggle button twice. Example:

Two keystroke consonants

Some consonants, especially aspirated consonants require two keystrokes. If you need the second keystroke to explicitly generate the associated consonant, use the ‘a’ key in between.

To get half-forms for conjunct formation, use the halant. Halant is mapped to ‘q’. Examples:
