Malayalam
Malayalam-Anjal allows you to type Malayalam using English letters. The keys will generate Malayalam letters based on the keymap provided in the table below. The keys approximate the sound of the Malayalam letters.
Consonant signs & conjuncts
Chandrakala is automatically appended to a consonant when it is typed. If the next key is an ‘a’, the Chandrakala will dissappear. Conjunts and consonant signs are formed when two consonants are typed without an ‘a’ in between. To explicitly get a chandrakala, type ‘q’.
Examples:
| Keystrokes | Output |
|---|---|
| kaka | കക |
| kka | ക്ക |
| kara | കര |
| kra | ക്ര |
| kala | കല |
| kla | ക്ല |
| q | ് |
Vowel signs
When a vowel key is typed after a consonant, the key generates a vowel
sign instead of a vowel. To explicitly type a vowel after a consonant,
type <delete> to delete the chandrakala and then the vowel key.
Example:
| Keystrokes | Output |
|---|---|
| ki | കി |
k <delete>i | കഇ |
Two keystroke consonants
Some consonants, especially aspirated consonants require two keystrokes. If you need the second keystroke to explicitly generate the associated consonant, use the ‘a’ key in between.
Examples:
| Keystrokes | Output |
|---|---|
| kha | ഖ |
| kaha | കഹ |
| nga | ങ |
| naga | നഗ |
Chillaksharams
Consonant keys followed by ‘w’ will produce chillaksharams, if the consonant has a chillaksharam variant.
Examples:
Chillaksarams
| Keystrokes | Output |
|---|---|
| kw | ൿ |
| rw | ർ |
| nw | ൻ |
| Nw | ൺ |
| lw | ൽ |
| Lw | ൾ |
